RULES

Registration

  1. Monday before a tournament date is the sign up deadline.

  2. Players cannot play for more than one team in the same age division/pool

  3. Payments due no later than one week prior to event

Game Rules

  1. Time Rules:

    1. 9u-Varsity: 18 minutes (See below)

    2. Clock stops only on free throws & last 3 minutes of each half.

  2. 2- 4 minutes warm-up time.

  3. 20 point difference the clock runs.

  4. All teams must be ready to play no later than 10 minutes prior to their game time. If the court is available VH can begin games 6 minutes prior to posted times.

  5. Pressing Rule (9u-11u) only

    1. Teams can press in the first half until they are up by 10 or more points.

    2. Teams can press in the second half until there are up by 20 or more points.

  6. 6 fouls = player disqualification

  7. 10 team fouls = 1 & 1 (No two shot fouls unless in act of shooting regardless of number of team fouls)

  8. Three full timeouts per team.

  9. Overtime 2 minutes.

  10. Technical Fouls / Flagrant Fouls

    1. Two Technical Fouls = Ejection for remainder of tournament (Coach or Player)

    3. Fighting = technical foul and removal from remainder of tournament


AGE Requirements

*Players are allowed to play up in age but are not allowed to play for multiple teams in the same division.

  • 4th Grade: An athlete must be enrolled in the 4th grade or cannot turn 11 until after June 20, 2022.

  • 5th Grade: An athlete must be enrolled in the 5th grade or cannot turn 12 until after June 20, 2022.

  • 6th Grade: An athlete must be enrolled in the 6th grade or cannot turn 13 until after June 20, 2022.

  • 7th Grade: An athlete must be enrolled in the 7th grade or cannot turn 14 until after June 20, 2022.

  • 8th Grade: An athlete must be enrolled in the 8th grade or cannot turn 15 until after June 20, 2022.

  • 9th Grade: An athlete must currently be enrolled in 9th grade at an accredited high school or preparatory school.

  • 10th Grade: An athlete must currently be enrolled in 10th grade at an accredited high school or preparatory school.

  • High School Varsity: An athlete can be no older than 19 on August 31, 2021. An athlete must also currently be enrolled at an accredited high school or preparatory school.

ELIGIBILITY MATERIAL OPTIONS

In order to compete in Vertical Hoops events, players must be verified. Players must come with a copy of their most recent report card which includes date of birth (if no date of birth, please bring both report card AND copy of birth certificate).

  4. Valid Passport (Meets age and photo ID requirements)

Challenge Rules:

Coaches are allowed to challenge up to 2 players on the opposing team. If either player is proven illegal, a forfeit is assessed and the team is ineligible to advance. If the challenging coach is incorrect, he/she will be assessed a technical foul in the associated game. If a team gets more than one incorrect challenge it will result in the coaches ejection. Challenges need to happen before a game begins and a $100 fee is charged before the challenge is complete. If the challenge is correct the fee will be returned.

Program Conduct

  1. Parents, fans, coaches, and players are all expected to conduct themselves appropriately. Swearing at or excessive yelling at refs, opposing players, or other fans will result in removal from the facility.

  2. All teams must provide a contact person who is reachable during the tournament.

  3. Team dropouts due to Covid or any other reason will not receive a refund as games are scheduled.
